Salah signs new deal to stay at Liverpool until 2027

Liverpool FC forward Mohamed Salah has signed a new contract at Anfield, bringing an end to months of speculation over his future.

Salah’s previous deal had been due to expire this summer, and the Egypt international had hinted that this season might be his last with the club. However, the 32-year-old has now committed to head coach Arne Slot by agreeing to a two-year extension that will keep him at Liverpool until at least 2027.

Negotiations, overseen by sporting director Richard Hughes and Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas Issa, had been ongoing for several months. While reports suggested Salah might take a pay cut to remain at Anfield, a source told ESPN that reducing his salary was never part of the discussions.

“Of course I’m very excited,” Salah said. “We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football.

“It’s great. I had my best years here. I played eight years — hopefully it’s going to be 10. I’m enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years of my career.

“I would like to say to the fans, I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best.”

Since joining from AS Roma in 2017, Salah has established himself as one of the world’s elite forwards. He has made nearly 400 appearances for Liverpool, winning seven major trophies, including the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

This season alone, Salah has scored 32 goals in 45 matches across all competitions, including 27 in the league, playing a central role in Liverpool’s push for a 20th league title. His brace against Southampton in March moved him into third place on the club’s all-time scoring list.

Salah becomes the first of Liverpool’s three key out-of-contract players to extend his stay. The futures of Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold remain unresolved, although captain Van Dijk recently indicated that progress has been made in talks over his own new deal.
