Kei Kamara retires

Veteran striker Kei Kamara has announced his retirement, bringing an end to a remarkable Major League Soccer career.

After making his MLS debut in 2006, the 41-year-old became one of the league’s most enduring and recognizable players, spending 18 seasons in MLS.

Over that span, Kamara scored 147 goals, the second-highest total in league history, trailing only Chris Wondolowski’s 173.

Unlike Wondolowski, who spent most of his career with the San Jose Earthquakes, Kamara built a reputation as a journeyman. He played for a record 12 MLS clubs and also had short stints overseas.

“I never played for just one crest,” Kamara said in a video announcing his retirement. “I played for the love of the game and the places it carried me.”

Born in Sierra Leone, Kamara also represented the national team 45 times, scoring eight goals.
