Heat Land Giannis Antetokounmpo in Blockbuster Trade With Bucks

One of the NBA’s longest-running trade sagas has finally reached its conclusion.

The Milwaukee Bucks have traded two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat in a blockbuster deal completed late Monday night, according to multiple media reports.

Miami reportedly acquired Antetokounmpo along with veteran forward Bobby Portis. In exchange, the Heat are sending guard Tyler Herro, center Kel’el Ware, forward Jaime Jaquez Jr., guard Kasparas Jakucionis, first-round draft picks in 2026 (No. 13 overall), 2031 and 2033, a 2030 first-round pick swap, and a 2033 second-round selection to Milwaukee.

The Heat and the Boston Celtics had emerged as the leading contenders to acquire Antetokounmpo ahead of Tuesday’s NBA Draft. Boston’s reported offer centered around five-time All-Star Jaylen Brown, but Miami ultimately secured the franchise-altering deal.

Antetokounmpo, 31, had been the subject of trade speculation for more than a year. He remains under contract through the 2026-27 season with a $58.5 million salary and holds a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 campaign, according to Spotrac.

The superstar forward endured an injury-shortened 2025-26 season, appearing in a career-low 36 games after suffering a hyperextended left knee on March 15. He was ruled out for the remainder of the season as the Bucks missed the playoffs for the first time since 2015-16. Reports also indicated tension between Antetokounmpo and the organization regarding the handling of his injury.

Despite the disappointing finish to his tenure in Milwaukee, Antetokounmpo leaves as the greatest player in franchise history. The Greek-Nigerian superstar led the Bucks to the 2021 NBA championship and departs as the organization’s all-time leader in games played (895), points (21,531), rebounds (8,882), assists (4,484), and blocked shots (1,088).

The trade marks the end of an era in Milwaukee and the beginning of a new championship pursuit in Miami, where Antetokounmpo joins a Heat franchise eager to return to NBA title contention.
