Alhassan returning to action at Fight Island
The UFC’s lone Ghanaian fighter is set to make his return to the Octagon on July 15th. Welterweight Abdul Razak Alhassan will face off against UFC newcomer Mounir Lazzez at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi -aka “Fight Island”.
Alhassan has been out of action since September 2018 when he last knocked out Niko Price in 43 seconds at UFC 228 in Dallas, Texas. On a three fight win streak, Alhassan was forced to step aside while he faced sexual assault accusations but earlier this year Alhassan was found not guilty of the charges against him. Sporting a 10-1 record, Alhassan will be fighting another African in the Tunisian Lazzez. Lazzez has a 9-1 MMA record and is coming in off of two first round finishes in a row. Lazzez will become the first UFC fighter born and raised in an Arab country when he steps in the octagon against Alhassan.
The 34 year old Alhassan is known for his granite hands and will have a willing opponent to stand up against in Lazzez but the Tunisian Lazzez is also a quality grappler. Judo Razak(as Alhassan is known due to his Judo background) and Lazzez are on the July 15th card featuring Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige as the main event.
