Atalanta BC have confirmed that forward Ademola Lookman has completed a permanent move to Atlético de Madrid.
Atlético announced on Sunday that they had reached an agreement with the Serie A side for the Nigeria international, noting the deal was subject to a medical and the finalization of his contract. On Monday, Atalanta confirmed the transfer, bringing an end to Lookman’s three-and-a-half-year spell in Bergamo.
The 28-year-old joined Atalanta in 2022 after previous spells with Fulham FC, Leicester City FC, RB Leipzig and Everton FC. He established himself as a key attacking figure in Serie A during his time with the Italian club.
On the international stage, Lookman scored three goals for Nigeria national football team at the Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria finished third after losing to Morocco national football team in a semifinal penalty shootout.
Atlético currently sit third in La Liga, nine points behind Real Madrid CF and 10 adrift of leaders FC Barcelona after 22 matches. Diego Simeone’s side will face Club Brugge KV in the UEFA Champions League playoffs later this month.
