OG Anunoby avoided a major injury after being ruled out of New York’s Game 3 win Friday night with a strained right hamstring and is currently considered day-to-day.
The Knicks forward suffered the injury late in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals after scoring 24 points. Despite his absence, New York secured the victory and now leads the best-of-seven series 3-0.
Anunoby was playing well again Wednesday before appearing to injure his leg and signaling to come out of the game. He later headed to the locker room and did not return during the Knicks’ 108-102 win.
The 6-foot-7 forward has been one of New York’s standout postseason performers, averaging 21.4 points per game while shooting 61.9% from the field and 53.8% from three-point range. Widely regarded as the Knicks’ top defender, Anunoby previously dealt with a hamstring injury during the second round of the playoffs two years ago, when New York held a 2-0 series lead over Indiana. He missed the next four games and appeared only briefly in Game 7 as the Pacers completed the comeback to win the series.
