Jeremie Frimpong has joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen for €35 million (£29.5m), signing a five-year contract.
The move comes shortly after Liverpool confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold would be leaving for Real Madrid, including eligibility for the Club World Cup. Frimpong, 24, is seen as Alexander-Arnold’s natural replacement in Arne Slot’s squad.
Frimpong, who helped Leverkusen claim their first Bundesliga title in 2023-24 and made 53 appearances in all competitions as they finished second in 2024-25, will compete for the right-back spot with Northern Ireland’s Conor Bradley, who recently extended his contract for four years.
A product of the Manchester City youth system, Frimpong moved to Celtic in September 2019 before joining Leverkusen in January 2021.
At Liverpool, he joins a growing Dutch contingent alongside Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch.
